Bob Kisaka
We are excited to start our student profiles for the upcoming year! Every year, we try to introduce you to our students and tell you a little about their lives and their needs. Georgette asked each of the children to tell a little about themselves or their experience with Hope Sparked and got some great videos. All of the videos are in Lingala, but we’ve provided English subtitles. Many of these children haven’t been in front of a camera much, so they’re pretty shy and a bit nervous. We are starting with the students that have received support from Hope Sparked the previous year, and hope to introduce you to some prospective students after that.
Our first video is from Bob Kisaka. As we mentioned last year, Bob’s parents are both unemployed but try to support their six children selling sugar cane. Mabulu is near an agricultural area, and many residents purchase small amounts of products in the fields on a daily basis to sell throughout the city for a small profit. Bob is now 13 years old, and was out of school for three years before he was able to re-enter his fourth year of primary school with help from Hope Sparked. His goal is to become a driver, which can be a relatively well-paying job in Kinshasa. You can see Bob’s excitement at the ability to go to school and sense how much it means to his parents. Georgette asks each family to provide whatever they can, in Bob’s case she asked them to come up with a few notebooks to show their commitment while Hope Sparked provided uniforms and the rest of his supplies and school fees. Please visit our donate page to help support his education. Most of us would probably never even miss $20 a month, but it would create a world of difference for him.
