Botomali Atiwana Jeannice
Our first profile of the new school year is for Botomali Atiwana Jeannice. Our staff tells us she is always smiling, and all the pictures we have attest to that. This is her fourth year receiving support from Hope Sparked, and she has consistently done well in school. Her father has passed away and her mother and grandmother have very limited means to support the family. Jeannice also suffers from sickle cell disease, a genetic condition that has stunted her growth and causes fairly regular costly medical complications. Sickle cell disease is quite prevalent in malaria prone regions such as DRC; the one good side effect is that it provides some resistance to the ever-present disease. With good nutrition and medical care, the stunted growth can often be averted, but Jeannice obviously has not had these opportunities. Despite these challenges, she remains constantly motivated and happy. We are looking for a sponsor that can help ensure she remains in school to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse. If you’d like to be a part of her story, please visit our sponsorship or donation page to learn how.
