Our last student profile for the year is Umba Mutumbidi Sephora. She is the youngest of six children, and none of her siblings have been able to study past second grade. Their mother tries to earn money selling recycled products in the streets, but the family has never had enough to pay for school tuition. They do not have their own home, and live with family or friends. Umba is hoping to break this cycle of poverty. She loves studying, is working very hard in school, and has done well. She is beginning the sixth grade this year with support from Hope Sparked. If you’d like to provide support for her continuing education, please visit our sponsorship page. The picture below shows Umba’s school which is very characteristic of most schools in the area – open air concrete rooms with wooden benches and an open, dirt courtyard.
