Mwamba Katshindja Moïse is an inspiring young man who has overcome extreme obstacles. He is the youngest of three siblings who were thrown out into the street when he was about two years old. In many poorer communities, superstitious behaviors are commonplace and people often blame misfortune on witchcraft. All too often when that misfortune happens around young children they are believed to be “witches” and blamed for the bad luck a family encounters. Immediate or extended family members often encourage a family to cast these children aside, and all too many children end up on the streets because of this. Moïse ended up being raised by his 12 year old brother for a time until some friends took them in. Moïse also developed kwashiorkor, a severe form of protein malnutrition that often results in a distended stomach and can lead to long-term complications. Despite all this, he has performed well in school and is doing very well in secondary school with support from Hope Sparked. Our staff noticed his strong desire to study and has been continually impressed with him. Please visit our sponsorship or donation page to see how you can be a Spark of Hope in his life.
